Faxon Law Group, widely known for its dynamic generosity in the community and long-time sponsorship of the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race, announced a new partnership with LiveKind that aims to improve community relations between law enforcement and neighborhood youth in all ten districts served by the New Haven Police Department. Faxon Law Group donated $25,000 to initiate the program in District 2 (Westville) and will be helping LiveKind secure necessary financing for additional districts. Florence has 15 years of experience helping nonprofits, city government, and corporations engage with communities.
After graduating from UCLA, Florence started her career as a Community Organizer for a nonprofit organization in the Los Angeles metro market, training and empowering at-risk youth and working with law enforcement on community task forces to fight substance abuse and school violence issues. She then went on to pursue her Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) at the University of Southern California (USC) where she gained perspective on how to leverage organizations, systems, public policy, and programs to impact social change.
Florence’s cross sector experience with nonprofits, government and corporations (with a few stints in local political campaigns), gives her a diverse and strong perspective on the power of partnerships. While working for City Hall, Florence led the development and launch of a police foundation as a strategic way to engage the business community in civic life — these business leaders became the board members of an initiative that gave them pride, purpose, and responsibility in improving the public safety of their own community. Similarly, Florence facilitated the formation of Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers, working with law enforcement, community activists and business leaders to establish a new public/private partnership initiative to engage ordinary citizens in driving public safety. Florence’s expertise in public/private partnerships and cross sector collaboration has led to the successful launch of multiple nonprofits and community initiatives.
While with Target Corporation, Florence managed a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative that included strategic partnerships, corporate grantmaking and community engagement strategies within Target’s Corporate Security division. Florence played a key leadership role in establishing Target’s brand presence with new audiences in the Western U.S. Region, leveraging the work of charitable giving to build the company’s reputation as a good corporate citizen, supporting law enforcement initiatives to build safer communities.
Florence’s value for community engagement extends to her own personal leadership. She has served as Executive Board Member and Marketing Committee Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Police Foundation, Executive Board Member and Founding Committee member of Los Angeles Crime Stoppers, and a Board Member of the University of Southern California (USC) Asian American Alumni Association. She was also appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles to serve as a City Commissioner for the Los Angeles Convention & Exhibition Center Authority. The Los Angeles Business Journal recognized Florence as a top finalist for Corporate Leadership Excellence in the 2012 Nonprofit and Corporate Citizenship Awards. Currently, Florence serves as a Trustee of the New York City Police Foundation.
Florence is also a frequent public speaker. She has addressed forums such as the National Homeland Security Conference and the FEMA Regional Leadership Conference on Public/Private Partnerships, and has served as a guest lecturer on corporate social responsibility trends at the University of Southern California.
Florence is a native of Los Angeles and resides in New York City.
